A friend from a former workplace asked for my opinion on this text message she received this morning.

Hi, gud day! Ms. ____, This is Erickson! I got ur number from database! I'm working frm U.S. Base Company & my senior executive is looking for 2-3 persons to work with him & I would like to recommend you & If you qualify for this job you will earn 15-20k/mos. If ur interested just txt me to set u an appointment to my senior executive to give u more details! Dnt wori there is no commitment yet!  ->gurlie, scam ba ito?

It sounded so vague (from what database?) and I bet someone is cringing at the grammatical errors. I asked if she had already inquired as to what company this was supposedly. She, again, forwarded the reply.

This is the company add: 15th floor Octagon Bldg. San Miguel Ave., Ortigas Center Pasig City. Wear casual attire and bring 1 valid ID  ->dats ol he replied. visit der company daw. He ddnt rili answer my qstn.

Does this line of answering seem suspicious? Anyway, I just don't like the way it sounded and why the recruiter was evasive. So I asked her to give me a few minutes so I could check the address online.

And the horror of it!
Just because of this I'm so happy we have the internet for information and I'm ecstatic that we are connected at home.

Yes, if you search that address using google, you'll get a legitimate company. Nu Skin is a company that sells beauty and nutrition products and does MLM. There have been several other bloggers who have written on this company's recruitment style and/or M.O. and a click on one blog reveals more than enough information to cause dismay. Previous M.O. s are usually through phone calls.  Anyway, this was the blog that I read:  The Sunday Phone call

So I went back to my friend and informed her of what I unearthed. I'm not sure what she replied to the recruiter but she was informed the company is Synergy 1 Global (now you tell her!) which seems to be one of the aliases of this company.

To make a long story short, she refused. The recruiter, of course, badgered her some more and she refused vehemently and that's that. I'm glad I was able to help her avoid that trap.

Oooh, I'm definitely annoyed at this. Don't you just hate sneaky, deceptive MLM schemes?

And that's how a durian grows if you have ever been curious. This one though, is one of those hybrid varieties as the native trees reach about 3m in height. This variety, at least, won't fall on top of your head when it ripens.

Dad's death anniversary fell on the 14th, that was the busiest day, all the rest of the time I just spent resting (and sleeping) at home, going to the nearby mall and buying pasalubong. The same week was also the Kadayawan Festival in Davao and that would mean tons of fruit and flowers in th streets, lots of tiangges and heavy traffic.

So now, I'm back in Manila, back to the usual and again, I wish I don't have to take calls for a living but that can't be helped. Yet.

  My cat gave birth to three new kitties last July 23. Here they are one day after being born.
  Currently, their eyes are already open and are starting to walk unsteadily. They don't have names yet. The white one is the youngest. The other two we consider as twins as they came out almost at the same time. The twins are most probably female while the white would be male.
  Their mom has been annoying since she has been prone to leaving them for hours and a day just to answer several mating calls this past week. At least this has stopped lately because of the weather. (I have seen her together with 6 different Toms at different times of the day. How slutty can a cat get? o_0)
                                              
  I recently got the results of our Annual Physical Exam. Nothing really serious in the findings except that I'm overweight (nothing new with that), have hormonal imbalance and I'm currently regularly monitored for possible hypertension. All in all, just the usual stuff you might encounter with working in this industry.
  Of course, I haven't ignored any of these warning signs. I have been initiating some changes but it's been a bit difficult with regards to food as there are limited healthy food options when at work.
                                                             
  A change of schedule is approaching for me! Actually, the original schedule assigned to me wasn't much of a difference--same day off, shift starts 30 minutes earlier, but a friend has requested that we swap schedules so she could be with her loved one who is on the same team/time as I am. We just need to have this processed first so we'll know when we can swap. She has the morning shift so if this goes through, it will be something new for me.
                                                                             
  August 14 would be the first year death anniversary of my Dad. As such, I will be in Davao City from August 13 to 18 to spend time with the family.

This July 15 will find me working in a call center for one year. This was the date of hiring, not when I started taking calls which would be almost a month after (can't remember the exact date).

Still, a year is a year.

The first few months went quite fast and I hardly felt it. These days it just seems to be such a burden largely because of things at work which I don't want to elaborate on in a public post.

So, I got nothing special planned. I acknowledge my one year at work by working on that day. (or I think I will be.)
